Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will report to the Group Executive Manager: Treasury and will be responsible for, amongst others, the following:

• Manage a unit of well motivated and competent staff. He/she is required to liaise externally or consult with other units in the Bank to implement required policies in broader areas of expertise which impacts on all aspects of the Bank’s operations.
• Focus on and act in an advisory or facilitative capacity, to provide management support, to implement controls, indirectly contribute to enhanced implementation of the Bank’s operational objectives and the building of internal capacity.
• Assist in the development of corporate governance, strategic business and policy frameworks, provide support, evaluation, monitoring and oversee the implementation of policy objectives.
• Develop business policies and operational formats and guidelines within given strategic and operational frameworks in response to the internal and/or external environment.
• Utilize the performance management process fairly and objectively, apply the required procedures, demonstrate accurate and fair judgment of people, produce justifiable overall results, act as a performance coach and give constructive feedback throughout the year.
• Identify staff development needs, define and review human resources targets and allocation in accordance with the human resources policies. He/she will help build staff knowledge and skills to ensure full utilization of staff and application of the employment equity principles in projects.
• Managing the back office and middle office functions in Treasury.
• Ensuring timely and accurate confirmations and settlements of all transactions.
• Day-to-day cash and bank management.
• Ensuring accurate and appropriate accounting for all treasury transactions.
• Keeping abreast of developments in international financial reporting and accounting standards and advising Executive Management on implications of changes for treasury operations.
• Working with other members of the Treasury team and other units in the Bank to develop policies and procedures to ensure a rigid control environment in Treasury.
• Maintaining Treasury systems controls and managing standard operating procedures to ensure that Treasury systems remain functional and secure.
• Managing systems upgrades and enhancements in liaison with the ITS unit.
• Liaising with systems vendors.
• Liaising with internal and external auditors.
• Advising Treasury on the accounting treatment of complex hedging, funding, and investment structures.
• Timely and accurate preparation of hedge documentation.
• Guiding Treasury teams in the preparation of IFRS compliant risk disclosure information for financial reporting.
• Managing corporate banking relationships.
• Preparation of monthly Treasury financials for presentation to Executive and Board Committees.
• Assisting in the preparation of the Bank’s annual financial statements.
• Managing the business unit operational risks.
• Undertaking such tasks as may be delegated by the Group Executive Management and the CEO from time to time.
• Ensuring smooth and professional working relationships with Financial Management, and other areas of the Bank.
Expertise & Technical Competencies:
• Must have relevant finance degree
• Minimum of 5 years experience in an auditing/accounting environment, a significant portion of which would have been gained in a banking or corporate treasury environment.
• A professional qualification such as CA (SA) will be a distinct advantage.
• Must have excellent knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS), accounting for financial instruments, knowledge of treasury systems and controls, and a thorough understanding of financial markets and instruments.
