Post Description:
The Centre for Technology Assisted Learning (CenTal) of the University of Johannesburg maintains academic technologies to assist various faculties and divisions to support teaching, learning and assessment.

The succesful applicant will be part of the CenTaL's Community Support and Development team that provides support to the University community,including staff and students, in the use of academic technologies.Support is provided in three ways,including: development, building up and maintenance of self-help websites and support material, telephonic and individual support.

He or she will report to the Director: Centre for Technology Assisted Learning.
Requirements:
-At least two years, post-grade 12 accredited qualification (certificate or diploma) in the relevant field.
-At least 1 year experience in the relevant field.
-At least 2 year's experience in the use of Microsoft (Ms) Windows and Ms Office.
-Excellent interpersonal relations to serve students and academic staff.
-Exceptional written and verbal language and communication skills.
-Committed to be a pro-active team player and willing to share knowledge and information.
-The ability to work alone.
-The ability to undertake research and evaluate emerging technologies and applications, useful in supporting students and staff.
Recommendations:
-Experience in Project Management.
-Experience in the design, creation and deployment of websites.
-Time management skills.

  Job Title: Lecturer

The College of Accounting is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Commerce with four teaching disciplines namely Financial Reporting, Taxation, Auditing and Management Accounting / Finance. The College’s highly regarded Chartered Accountant (CA) programmes are accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Applications are invited from suitably professionally qualified persons, who wish to teach on courses within the CA programme, for appointment to a full-time post as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the College of Accounting. In addition to these posts the College wishes to appoint a convenor for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Accounting Conversion Course) at the Senior Lecturer level. The College wishes to make the appointment(s) with an effective starting date of 1 January 2013.

Requirements for the respective positions:

1. Lecturer: Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa).
2. Senior Lecturer: Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) and a relevant Masters degree.
3. Convenor for the Post Graduate Diploma (Senior Lecturer level):
Relevant academic and operational experience in programme administration
Solid track record in the teaching of accounting
Relevant Masters degree
A professional teaching qualification would be to the candidate’s advantage.

The successful candidates will be expected to:
Demonstrate a broad and thorough understanding of the subject area of accounting with specialization in one of the four disciplines mentioned above
Apply their knowledge in their area of specialization in innovative ways to post- and undergraduate teaching
Work within a dynamic team and contribute towards scholarship and related initiatives within the College

The following will be to the candidate’s advantage:
Prior teaching experience.
Evidence of competence in scholarship.
Practical business experience
Good presentation skills.
Specialised competence within at least one of the disciplines.

Responsibilities include:
Teaching on a SAICA accredited programme in one of the four teaching disciplines.
Performing scholarship.
Convening at least one undergraduate or postgraduate course or programme.
Related administrative tasks.
Participation in College initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities:

Liaise with departments on asset management.
Handle physical asset intakes on all premises of the University.
Update the asset system with the information gathered during physical intakes.
Maintenance and follow-ups on asset intake controls.
Updating of the university premises.
Perform follow-up tasks related to appointments, transfers and resignations of personnel members.
Perform follow-up tasks related to validity reports.
Perform account reconciliations and follow-ups thereof.

Inherent requirements:

Grade 12 with subjects in accountancy/equivalent qualification.
Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and knowledge in the use of e-mail.
Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the parallel-medium and multicultural working environment of the University.
Ability to work accurate and systematic.

Purpose



The appointee will teach short learning programmes by applying UNISA’s Open-Distance-Learning Paradigm and assess students (formative as well as summative assessment). S/he will supervise Master’s students and promotes Doctoral students (if s/he has a doctoral degree). S/he will conduct research that is relevant for TMALI in order to obtain a Doctoral degree (if needed) or to produce accredited research outputs and to improve her/his discipline expertise.

Requirements:



· Applicable academic qualification at NQF level 9 (e.g. MPhil or Master’s degree through course work or research)

· Teaching experience in an Open-Distance-Learning (ODL) environment will be an advantage

· Demonstrated potential to engage in research such as an appropriate qualification, accredited research outputs, research reports, supervision of postgraduate students or any other research activity.

· Experience in teaching postgraduate courses in leadership will be an advantage

· Must be able to make a good presentation on a topic that is of interest to him/her and relevant to TMALI.

· Willingness to participate in community engagement that is relevant for TMALI

· Willingness to participate in institutional committees



Key Duties:

· Keeps up to date with national and international trends in his/her discipline and/or those that are relevant to achieve the objectives of TMALI

· Develops and teaches short learning programmes

· Supervises/promotes Master’s and Doctoral students

· Ensures compliance with the Quality Assurance Framework of UNISA

· Conducts research that is relevant for TMALI

· Participates and assists with the arrangement and organisation of conferences, research colloquiums, workshops, and seminars in order to enhance research at TMALI and discipline knowledge

· Ensures progression on own development path

· Participates in community engagement that is relevant for TMALI

· Participates in community development and capacity building where the skills and knowledge of the community are developed

· Participates in University structures/committees at various levels
