The Department of Adelaide Tambo School of Nursing, in the Faculty of Science has a permanent position of Associate Professor at the Pretoria Campus

Critical Performance Areas

Teaching, facilitation and assessment of learning in the Nursing programmes of the School.
Participation in activities related to the learning programmes of the School, such as curriculum development, quality assurance and community engagement.
Academic administration related to teaching and learning activities.
Participate in research and supervise postgraduate students on research topics within the niche area of the School.


Minimum Requirements

A Doctoral degree in Nursing.
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing recognized by the SA Nursing Council.
A post-basic qualification in Nursing Education is essential.
Five (5) years of teaching experience in one of the disciplines of Nursing as well as research experience.
Supervision of Masters and/or Doctoral Students.
A proven research track record of publications in both national and international journals.
Presentation at national and international conferences.

Roles and responsibilities



The Deputy Executive Dean is a member of the Extended Management Committee of the University and is required to promote the strategic goals and management philosophy of the University. Furthermore, s/he has to ensure that the College of Law is functioning in line with the overall vision and mission of Unisa.The incumbent reports to the Executive Dean: College of Law and provides strategic leadership to the College. S/he has to ensure that the College of Law becomes a centre of excellence in the fields of Law and Criminal Justice with regard to tuition, learning, research, and community engagement in South Africa and on the African continent

.

S/he does so by



· overseeing the development of relevant educational programmes in response to national needs and those of the continent that are in line with Unisa’s strategic objectives

· building and securing sound relations with relevant stakeholders and the community

· establishing and maintaining a collaborative approach with regard to tuition and community engagement within the College

· promoting cutting-edge research in the fields of Law and Criminal Justice

· assuming responsibility for transformation and change management in the College



Requirements



· A relevant doctoral degree

· At least ten years’ experience in the higher education sector, at least five years of which should be at senior/middle management level

· A proven academic record and an international reputation as a scholar in the fields of Law and Criminal Justice, with a good grasp of evolving trends

· Demonstrated experience in, and expert knowledge of teaching and learning

· A proven track record as an academic leader with experience in the management of colleges, faculties, schools, departments, institutes and/or centres

· Knowledge and insight into the challenges facing higher education.

· Knowledge of open distance learning

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Excellent managerial and administrative skills

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is large, dynamic and a leading research centre in mathematical sciences in the country. The department plays a central role in the Faculty of Science and offers a broad range of courses in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, including services courses for other faculties. The Department has over thirty faculty members, ten administrative staff members and more than 50 postgraduate students

Applications are sought for a position at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. Candidates must be in possession of a PhD in the Mathematical Sciences and are expected to have a research track record, which must show some evidence of independence for Senior Lecturer level.

The Education Development Unit (EDU) is seeking to make an appointment to this permanent post as soon as possible.

The EDU is a joint venture of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Academic Development Programme (ADP) in the Centre for Higher Education Development. A primary role of the EDU is to continue the process of curriculum transformation in the Faculty’s education programmes. The EDU is expanding its activities in the development of educational expertise in health professionals,
e-learning, open education resources, programme evaluation and the strengthening of educational research within the Faculty.

Requirements include:

An MBChB and a PhD in Higher Education Studies or Health Sciences Education.
For appointment at Associate Professor level, an MBChB plus a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Studies or Health Sciences Education could be considered.
Management and leadership experience in an academic environment
A record of achievement in research, publication and postgraduate supervision in aspects of health professional education
Teaching experience in a health sciences preferably (clinical) context

In addition the following will be to the candidate’s advantage:

Experience in leading education development initiatives within a health sciences environment
Expertise in quantitative methodologies in educational research
A willingness to specialize in one of the following: Programme Evaluation; Educational Innovation and its implementation, monitoring and evaluation; E-Learning.

Responsibilities include:

In rotation with the current Director, undertaking the Directorship of the EDU as required, reporting to the Deputy Dean Education in Health Sciences and to the Director of the ADP,

Purpose



The appointee will teach short learning programmes by applying UNISA’s Open-Distance-Learning Paradigm and assess students (formative as well as summative assessment). S/he will supervise Master’s students and promotes Doctoral students (if s/he has a doctoral degree). S/he will conduct research that is relevant for TMALI in order to obtain a Doctoral degree (if needed) or to produce accredited research outputs and to improve her/his discipline expertise.

Requirements:



· Applicable academic qualification at NQF level 9 (e.g. MPhil or Master’s degree through course work or research)

· Teaching experience in an Open-Distance-Learning (ODL) environment will be an advantage

· Demonstrated potential to engage in research such as an appropriate qualification, accredited research outputs, research reports, supervision of postgraduate students or any other research activity.

· Experience in teaching postgraduate courses in leadership will be an advantage

· Must be able to make a good presentation on a topic that is of interest to him/her and relevant to TMALI.
