The purpose of the job is to provide strategic direction and leadership to the
functions listed below, across all 5 campuses and affiliate institutions where relevant:
• The ITS application and its related Oracle database is the Enterprise Resource
Planning system used throughout the University. This section requires deep
knowledge of University processes and procedures, database management,
third line support, disaster recovery and strict application of best practice
change control.
• The operating systems, document management, unified communications and
email systems at the University are the foundation for the day to day functioning
of most of the business areas within the University. This section requires deep
technical knowledge and insight into the direction of: - and emerging
technologies within: - the Unified communications technology, document
management, Microsoft operating system platforms and Microsoft Exchange
platforms.
• The infrastructure environment at the University is a large scale operation, with
accolades such as the largest wireless roll-out in Africa. This is a centralised
hardware and infrastructure environment supporting the diverse divisions and
requirements of the University. This section requires deep technical knowledge
and insight into the direction of: - and emerging technologies within: - the
infrastructure, networking and Unified communications technology.
• This responsibility area covers a very large geographical spread and significant
requirements for access control and CCTV in strategic areas throughout the
University. This section requires deep technical knowledge and insight into the
direction of: - and emerging technologies within: - the infrastructure, networking,
CCTV and access control areas.
• Innovate, provide strategic direction and apply experience in order to achieve
business process, service delivery and/or cost efficiencies.
• Due to the highly technical nature of this business, highly skilled staff report to this
section. Vision, industry knowledge and experience are key success factors in
these environments.
• Effectively execute financial responsibilities with respect to budgeting, monitoring
spend against budget, achieving cost efficiencies and conforming to the
Universities procurement policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
• Relevant three year bachelor degree in computing or a technical related field
or equivalent.
• Ten (10) years’ relevant working experience, in a dynamic environment in a
large organisation.
Advantages:

• Working experience with Audio Visual Systems
• Working experience with Wireless Networking Systems
• Responsibility for administering large databases
• Microsoft qualifications or certifications
• Knowledge of ITS
