DIRECTOR: ICS SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
GRADE 6

The purpose of the job is to provide strategic direction and leadership to the functions
listed below, across all five campuses and affiliate institutions where relevant:
• User support involves supporting the IT related needs of the staff community
(approx 6,000 members) within the University. This includes incident/fault logging
and resolution, service requests, service and equipment reservations, event
support reservations, on-site user support and walk-in computer configuration,
support and re-installation. This section requires leadership of particularly large
numbers of staff split into the call centre environment, field service technicians
and a walk-in centre.
• Student support involves supporting the IT related needs of the student
community (approx 42, 000 members) within the University. This includes
incident/fault logging and resolution; new user creation and support; user
training and advice; computer software upgrades; computer lab administration,
configuration and management; and user walk-in computer/device
configuration and support. This section requires staff co-ordination across large
geographical areas with staff split into call centre, field service technicians and a
walk-in centre.
• Improvement and development projects are those system development
projects, system selection and implementation and system upgrades that are
designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the systems and
processes within the University. This section requires strategic initiative and
direction; experience in the development arena; and the management of large
budgets over diverse projects.
• Innovate, provide strategic direction and apply experience in order to achieve
business process, service delivery and/or cost efficiencies.
• Due to the call centre nature of this section, the volume of staff reporting to this
section is very high. Staff leadership and motivation are key success factors in
these environments.
• Effectively execute financial responsibilities with respect to budgeting, monitoring
spend against budget, achieving cost efficiencies and conforming to the
Universities procurement policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
• Relevant three year bachelor degree or equivalent in computer/management
related field.
• Ten (10) years’ relevant working experience focused on IT and Systems, in a busy
and pressurised environment in a large organisation.
Advantages:
