Our Thermal Coal business has operations in South Africa and Colombia, and we have a strong standing in both the export and domestic markets. While much of our coal is used for power generation, it also fuels a range of other industries. A part of Anglo American, we are helping to build the leading global mining company.
SAFETY OFFICER: THERMAL COAL, KRIEL COLLIERY, MPUMALANGA
The role:
• Conduct inspections at the various Operating sites taking instructions from the Safety Superintendent regarding the inspections through ensuring findings and observations recorded and closed out in the log book.
• Conduct incident and accident investigations according to safety protocols and corporate requirements and report on all incidents and accidents and submit to Safety Superintendent.
• Participate in Safety Audits ensuring all logistical arrangements in preparation for the audits are made.
• Participate in Operational Issue – Based Risk Assessments and compile action plans from risk assessments performed.
• Setup, participate and co-ordinate safety meetings with all stakeholders ensuring that regular meetings are setup with all the necessary stakeholders, including line managers and safety representatives.
• Perform training and coaching.
You will need:
• SAMTRAC
• OHSAS 18001
• Chamber of Mines Safety Officer Certificate 1 and 2
• Diploma/Degree in Safety Management will be an advantage (NQF Level 5)
• Blasting Certificate or a Recognised Trade will be an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years operational experience as a Safety Officer.
• Sound knowledge of the mining industry.
• Computer Literacy (MS Office)
Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession of or able to obtain a certificate of fitness
