Introduction

This position will report to the Medicine Risk Management Team Leader.The successful candidate will be required to register Chronic conditions and treatments and to give support to the DUR Pharmacists.

The Incumbent will be responsible for:

Handling members and providers professionally
Registration of chronic conditions ensuring treatment is done timeously and independently
Ensuring effective claims management service delivery and support
Performing efficient and accurate administrative function
Identifying all compliance risks and investigating all possible non-disclosure of pre-existing conditions
Participating in the identification of clinical guidelines
Ensuring the consistent and correct application of exclusions and identifying the appropriate clinical, chronic and PMB entry criteria
Contributing to the accuracy of accounts in all financial transactions aligned to GAAP
Ensuring cost effective processing of competitive prescription claims
Developing effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the
organisation, including 3rd parties and service providers
Engaging in effective communication and delivery according to Service Level Agreements
Negotiating contracts on behalf of clients in order to exceed their
requirements
Providing first time resolution on queries
Monitoring customer delivery constraints and escalate exceptions to
management
Establishing relationships with team members and assist colleagues where necessary
Working as part of a team to provide effective service delivery to an assigned area

The applicant should meet these requirements:

Matric
Post Basic Pharmacist assistant would be an advantage
Previous experience in a managed care environment dealing with medication issues would be an advantage
Registration with the Pharmacy Council as Pharmacist Assistant would be an advantage
Clinical knowledge, computer literate and good telephone etiquette

An MB ChB or M Fam Med qualification or alternatively an equivalent tertiary qualification

Experience in MHC which includes protocol and guideline development
Sound knowledge of evidence-based medicine
Knowledge of clinical coding and PMB policy ( contacts with NDoH, CMS and BHF would be an advantage )

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Public Health Specialist (Surveillance)/Epidemiologist in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

-          An in-depth knowledge of the range of HIV epidemiologic and surveillance programs and studies, policies, regulations and precedents applicable to development and administration of national/international public health programs is required.
-          Detailed knowledge of the host government health care system and structures, including familiarity with DOH policies, program priorities and regulations is required.
-          Good working knowledge of team management techniques to plan, organize and direct multi-disciplinary project teams and activities is required.
-          Good working knowledge of overall administrative requirements, budgeting and fiscal management in support of contracts/cooperative agreements/grants/purchase requisitions is required.
5.      Skills and Abilities:  
-          Excellent oral and written communications skills to develop and maintain effective, sustainable working relationships with national and international health partners are required.
-          Ability to lead results-driven project teams and workgroups is required.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position: 

The Epidemiologist/Surveillance Specialist works under the direction of the Surveillance/Epidemiology Team Lead as a key public health advisor to the Team Lead and Epidemiology and Strategic Information Branch management.  The major focus of the position is the development, implementation and monitoring of HIV/AIDS epidemiologic studies, operational research and targeted evaluation projects in South Africa.  The job holder’s responsibilities include day-to- day program and administrative management, and coordination and collaboration with other PEPFAR agencies to ensure that project implementation addresses program strategic objectives and internationally recognized public health standards and best practices.  The incumbent serves as the primary CDC contact for assigned implementing partners for issues related to CDC-supported epidemiologic studies and surveillance program activities and a leading technical expert within the U.S. Government interagency technical team.  The job holder serves as Activity Manager for surveillance, survey and epidemiologic study components of multiple CDC-supported cooperative agreements in South Africa.  The incumbent serves as a primary contributor to the planning, development, and review of surveillance and epidemiology components of the annual Country Operational Plan (COP) for South Africa and identifies linkages for these program activities within other PEPFAR program areas.  Monitors and evaluates progress of projects, identifying technical, personnel, logistical, and financial problems and makes or recommends revisions as necessary to overcome obstacles and constraints to progress.  The job holder represents CDC South Africa on HIV surveillance and epidemiologic issues at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donor agencies.  Identifies training needs and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of training courses for partner organizations.

Basic Salary:  R385,720 – R540,006 per annum
Cash Benefits:  R105,489 – R118,347 per annum
