Job description
A Telecom SME assigned to this position is expected to have

(1) Proven experience and knowledge needed to develop new business opportunities. They are expected to identify new business opportunities, creatively participate in the development of solutions, and to provide strong assistance to IBM sales teams in the winning of that business. They must have a strong background of having handled large and complex services engagements in their area of expertise, with a demonstrated expert knowledge of the appropriate methods and skills needed to solve business problems in the Telco industry. These SMEs are expected to have 8+ years of domain experience which includes working in Telcos (service providers).

(2) Provide Executive Level Deep Telco Industry subject matter expertise in the areas of end to end business process transformation, BSS/OSS application integration, and Next Generation Network technology. This includes working independently with client personnel and executives to identify functional requirements and subsequently working with and leading others in the identification, justification and design of the client's solution.

(4) The position requires significant knowledge of across competitive ISV solutions, multiple platforms, processes or architectures (e.g. SOA).

(5) Execute, help sell, and deliver integrated solutions targeted specifically for the Telco industry, for both current IBM accounts as well as new client opportunities. In addition to the solutioning and consultancy responsibilities, the SMEs are expected to lead the transitioning of such engagements to the delivery phase where they will act as mentors for delivery (GD) teams to ensure delivery excellence.

Job Mission

• The IS Systems Analyst serves as the tactical and operational interface to the respective MTN Business Units points of contact and works closely with the BDM’s and BLM’s to translate business needs into IS requirements. • Provides strategy input and is responsible for the execution of application strategies The IS Systems Analyst engages with the Business, the ISRO and their agents for delivery and provides technical advice and recommendations on how to leverage value from MTN’s infrastructure and domain application capabilities. • They provide Domain technical expertise at both the applications and technology levels, and conduct the research required for proof of concept (POC) and pilot projects.

KPA Duties

Key Tasks: • Meeting with internal clients to understand their business requirements prior to commencing projects within the framework of their domain expertise in liaison with the BLM’s and 3rd parties; • Understanding what application development solution may be relevant and appropriate as a solution to the business needs of the customer; • Provide consultation for all applications related projects so that decisions can be made as to the most appropriate delivery methodology; • Ensure that vendor and 3rd party developers are developing applications that comply to business requirements and implemented according to approved quality standards. • Supporting any applications RFx activity by delivering technical inputs and advice to the Procurement team; • Responsible for the application design, development and testing processes of projects; • Liaise with Enterprise Architecture to ensure that the most appropriate solution is implemented; • Defining, developing and executing the applications solutions roadmap (R&D) in conjunction with Enterprise Architecture; • Through R&D and POC execute the overall application strategy, bringing key insights in their domain into MTN; • To ensure that within a matrix of integrated business systems, domains are aligned; • Continuously review, improve and integrate ALM processes, in order to reduce complexity; • In conjunction with IS Compliance ensure that IS commitments, policies, procedures and standards are adhered to; • Ensure an application domain oversight role by Influencing and approving applications designs in the context of the joint design authority; • Facilitate JAD sessions with the 3rd party development vendors and the business; • Keeping abreast of latest trends in the technical and business domains to proactively progress and develop the MTN business; • Review Requirement Definition Specifications (RDS) to ensure that technical documentation is accurate and satisfies user requirements. • Compiling Solution proposals and technical designs for the target application. Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Tasks: • Team learning and knowledge sharing within team; • Providing monthly management reports and feedback on the domain discipline; • Facilitating technical and problem solving meetings; • Providing technical domain expertise to staff and 3rd parties; Role Dependencies: • Other system strategies in other area’s of IS • MTN’s business and functional strategy • Vendor and 3rd party processes and strategies.

Requirements

Mandatory • Matric • BSC IT, Bcom IT, Diploma IT and or 5 years related experience.
• Min. 5 years within an applicable application environment; • 5 Years application design and/or analysis experience; • Vendor/supplier management experience will be advantageous.
Knowledge: • In depth knowledge of IT and the IT technical roadmaps; • In depth knowledge of system and data analysis concepts; • In depth understanding of IT and Telecommunication Industry and key trends; • Broad knowledge of implementation platforms; • Key trends in the IS Industry with relation to Business Applications; • Industry (Telecommunications); • Web technologies; • Development methodologies; • Sound business domain knowledge.
