Introduction

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician in the Facilities Maintenance Unit (FAC).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:

NOTE:  ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM.

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1.      Education:
-          Completion of secondary school standard 8 (grade 10) is required.
-          N-3 certificate and three years A/C apprenticeship including completion of trades test exam is required.
-          Completion of basic electronics course for troubleshooting down to component level certificate is required.
2.      Experience:  Five years experience in the refrigeration and air conditioning field maintaining all types of A/C equipment normally found at residential homes and complexes is required.      
3.      Language:  English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.  Afrikaans level II (limited knowledge) is required.
4.      Knowledge:
-          Knowledge of local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to the Refrigeration and HVAC trade is required.
5.      Skills and Abilities:
-          Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics and sketches is required.
-          Ability to safely use all hand and power tools usually associated with the trade is required.
-          Ability to use tact and courtesy when dealing with colleagues, staff, vendors and contractors during the discharge of assigned duties is required.
-          Possession of valid Driver’s License is required.  
Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to refrigeration and air conditioning systems usually found at residential properties and complexes.  Other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Manager.

Basic Salary:  R168,006 – R235,205 per annum                                  
Cash Benefits:  R54,061 – R59,660 per annum          
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable
