Job Title: Assistant General Manager (AGM): Oversight

The main purpose of this position is to ensure the overall effectiveness and integrity of the national payment
system (NPS), and to provide Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries with assistance
and support.
The successful candidate will be responsible, among other things, for the following key performance areas:
• Identifying payment system risks proactively to prevent settlement failures and systemic risk
• Managing or reducing these payment system risks to prevent settlement failures and systemic risk
• Assisting with the development and implementation of legislation and regulations to enhance the legal
framework of the NPS (e.g., NPS Act, directives and position papers)
• Administering NPS regulations to ensure compliance with the legal framework; the regulation spans banks
and non-banks
• Conducting relevant research to keep abreast of risk-reduction developments and best practices so as
to ensure alignment with internationally accepted payment system practices enabling a modern payment
system and compliance with international standards
• Participating in and representing the Bank at domestic, regional and international payment system riskreduction
initiatives and forums
• Educating and publishing on NPS matters to ensure public awareness regarding payment system risks
• Acting as catalyst and facilitator, and liaising on payment system risk developments and issues
• Directing divisional human resources activities, including the approval of human resource plans and activities,
hiring and development of staff, oversight of performance management systems, and the determination and
alteration of divisional structures.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a graduate degree or diploma in Economics, Financial
Management, Accounting or Law; and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the banking, financial or payment
system environment.
Additional requirements are as follows: knowledge of payment systems; knowledge of project management;
experience in risk management; background in relevant legislation; adequate understanding of financial markets;
regulatory experience; computer literacy; verbal and written communication skills; high-level problem-solving
and analysis skills; managerial experience; presentation skills; negotiation skills; strategic thinking; and research
experience.
