To ensure economic efficiency in the ISC department through managing customs clearing process and ensure compliancy to Customs Legislation and World Trade Organization policies.
Minimum Requirements


What theoretical knowledge (e.g. degree / diploma) does the job require?

International trade or shipping course / diploma
Understanding of related technical terms, processes and procedures pertaining forwarding, shipping and clearing.
Advanced skills in Excel and Customs clearance system

What experience (e.g. previous exposure) does the job require?

A Minimum of 5 years customs clearing experience of made up products and foods with additional experience in forwarding and shipping

Job Specification


Main Purpose:


To ensure economic efficiency in the ISC department through managing customs clearing process and ensure compliancy to Customs Legislation and World Trade Organization policies.


Key Responsibilities:

Adherence and delivery against Business Unit's scorecards and service level agreements (SLA).
Ensure that all Customs and National Ports Authority processes and systems are conformed with.
Effective relationships with all areas of the business, customers, service providers, SARS and NPA to improve operating efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Focus on Business Unit's cost reduction - Overstay charges, correct duty payment, NPA cancellations fees
Focus on service excellence.
Effective and efficient resolution of queries through consultation with SARS, Customers and Service providers.
Ensure accurate administration and reporting for transactional excellence.
Provide tariff classification for Exports on locally produced goods.
Publish all Tariff amendments and duty changes weekly.
Research and publish all Government changes in legislation that may have an impact on Imports or Exports e.g.: Dept. Trade & Industry, Dept. of Agriculture, Dept. of Product Standards and Port Health.
Adherence to Government Departments Import & Export requirements - Permits for Port Health, Plant Inspector, and State Vet etc.
Ensure updates and affective Clearing system functions.
Ensure Tariff determination accuracy.
Submission of Tariff Determinations to H/O Pretoria
Apply for Refunds of Customs Duties
Manage refund payments with Customs/SARS
Attend all SARS custom stops and inspections. (Imports and Exports)
Reconciliation and Payment of SARS deferment account to ensure adequate credit facilities
Manage Duty Drawback refund reconciliation.
Control on Duty Credit Certifications scheme to reduce Duty payment to SARS
Adherence to import Quota requirements
Manage shipments cleared in Bond
Quality control ,EDI submissions and follow up of Bills of Entry to Customs
Collections of Customs release SAD 500, Bills of Lading, NPA Cargo Dues and statements.
Follow up on all customs queries on export system
Complete weekly and monthly customs KPI's.
Adherence to Corporate Governance Principles.

Technical Competencies

Knowledge of Customs and excise laws and more particularly are conversant with the Customs and Excise Act:
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the freight Industry and Shipping regulations and procedures
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Inco terms, foreign exchange procedures and Letters of Credit
Demonstrates understanding of warehouse and operations, including bonded warehouse requirements
Demonstrates an understanding of computer packages and is able to capture information and produce reports
Demonstrates an understanding of consequential impacts of decisions made

Health & Safety:

Have an in depth understanding of relevant legislation

Finance and or Business:

Ability to analyze and interpret financial and performance indicators at a detailed level.
Ability to act to budgetary targets
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the business measures and targets relating to own role

Ability to quickly develop a knowledge and understanding of the suppliers', customer and service provider business and demonstrates a passion for customer delivery
