Role Description:

The Chief Safety Officer is responsible for assisting the Safety Risk manager in the management of the Safety and Risk Department at Union Concentrators and the optimisation of the safety and risk control through design, implementation, evaluation, coordination and management of the safety and risk control systems, as well as for ensuring legal compliance at the Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Legal compliance of the Concentrators; Safety programme audit

•  Project results; Safety and risk statistics

•  Budget Compliance, Climate Survey

•  Achievement of objectives

•  Implementation of Group Safety Strategy

•  Implementation and maintaining the OHSAS 18001:2007 system requirements

•  Development of the Safety Risk Management Process

•  Performing internal compliance audits in terms of the OHSAS18001:2007 and Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996)

Education:

•  Tertiary diploma (M+3) in National Diploma in Safety Management (NADSAM)

•  SAMTRAC,

•  Computer literate (MS Power point, Word, Excel, Access and Projects)

•  Auditors courses for OHSAS 18001:2007

Competencies:

•  Experience in Risk Assessment Techniques

•  Accident investigation (AICAT, RCAT, Loss Causation)

•  Fire (Advanced fire – FPA) – (would be advantageous)

•  Behavior Based Safety

•  First Aid

•  Courses in Safety management systems (9001, 14001, 18001) - (would be advantageous)

•  3 Years relevant Mining experience which should include developing, implementing, managing and auditing of safety and risk control initiatives and programmes.

•  Valid Drivers License
