Work Description:
The Senior Instrumentation Technician is responsible for providing dedicated technical and operational systems support to the process division. The role requires a high degree of competence in instrumentation used in highly automated plants. The role is further responsible to ensure that all systems are maintained and optimised to ensure that the capacity to the production process is maximised.

Technical work responsibilities:

•  Management and maintenance of the control solution including:

-  Perform standby duty and work extended hours when required

-  All instrumentation on the plant

-  All interface junction boxes

-  The fieldbus network infrastructure

•  Management of the instrumentation department including:

-  Identify and implement continuous improvement projects

-  Alignment to the requirements of the plant management

•  Control Solution performance management including:

-  Alignment to the Anglo Platinum control solution standard

-  Alignment to the performance requirements of the process

-  The plant availability

•  Control Solution systems and procedures:

-  Change control procedures

•  Vendor and contract management

Core work outputs:

•  Stable instrumentation, network and hardware platform for the control solution of the metallurgical processing plants within the incumbents area of responsibility

•  Standardised control solution utilising the best practices as outlined by the process control department

•  Identify, motivate, manage and execute continuous improvement projects as well as assisting in all capital projects that are executed on the metallurgical processing plants within the incumbents area of responsibility

•  Adherence to all systems and procedures as required by Anglo Platinum

Key performance area:

•  Management of the equipment within the process control domain according to the prescribed key performance indicators from the process control department

•  Best practice for instrumentation developed within relevant legal and safety frameworks



Required abilities:

National technical diploma or NQF level 5 equivalent or,

•  Registered as a Professional Engineering Technician with ECSA

•  Competent as Instrument Mechanician

•  3 years relevant work experience

•  Knowledge of applicable laws, standards and specifications

•  Advanced computer literacy

•  English literate

•  Good decision making skills

•  Valid driving licence code 08

Required aptitudes:

•  Medically fit

•  Fit for movement around business area

•  Hand/ eye co-ordination

•  Not colour blind
