Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), a joint venture between Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and black economic empowerment (BBBEE) partners - Blue Horizon, is a leading producer of titanium minerals, high purity iron and zircon. RBM, a Rio Tinto Managed company, was formed in 1976 to mine and process the heavy minerals found in the coastal sands of northern KwaZulu Natal. The mine production output contributes significantly to South Africa's gross domestic product especially to the economy of KwaZulu Natal.

RBM employs approximately 1 800 employees and 2000 contractors. RBM is proud of the accreditation for ISO 9001 for quality, OHSAS 18001 certification for occupational health and safety management, and ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To install, commission and maintain process control & human / machine interface systems.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

Supervises and controls the activities, standards of performance and behaviour and the training and development of designated subordinate staff.
Installs, operates and maintains process control instrumentation.
Fault-finds and rectifies PLC hardware and software, man interface systems, telemetry and other instrumentation equipment.
Writes, modifies and tests PLC software.
Assist in day-to day problem solving and trouble shooting of plant control system problems.
Designs solutions and provides technology for improvements to systems.
Creates MIMMICS, visual forms or displays.
Maintains technical specifications, diagrams and operating procedures for all process control equipment.
Ensures the availability of high tech spares.
Prepares and controls the section's annual budget by forecasting operating costs and monitoring expenditure on a monthly basis.
Maintains and improves safety, health and environmental standards and practices.
Performs fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

N6/N Dip/NH Dip in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Industrial Instrumentation.
Preferably with Artisan Trade Test.
Eligible for ECSA Registration as a Professional Technician.
Driver's licence: EB.
