Job Title:Project Manager (South Africa)
Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK. Rio Tinto's business is finding, mining and processing mineral resources. Major products are copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt, talc) and iron ore. Activities span the world but are strongly represented in Australia and North America with businesses in South America, Asia, Europe and Southern Africa.
Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium (RTIT) is embarking on several projects in Madagascar, Mozambique and South Africa. These projects will be focused in establishing a Mineral Sands centre of excellence in Africa. We are seeking interested applicants for a number of roles for the projects.
Project Manager
We are seeking applicants for the role of Project Manager to work on exciting projects in 3 locations - Madagascar, South Africa and Mozambique as part of the Project Development and Implementation (PDI) team, in the RTIT project. PDI provides support and project support delivery services across the Rio Tinto group, specifically focusing on developing and managing specific major projects.
The Project Manager will lead the project team through the development and implementation stages to ensure that project objectives and value are defined and delivered, within the approved parameters. The individuals will be responsible for developing the scope of the projects, demonstrating an understanding of the company's business drivers. They will ensure alignment of the project scope to the business objectives in line with the business' strategic intent. The Project Managers will be responsible for collaborating with the Business Units, Product Groups and internal stakeholders in order to align and maximize efforts for project delivery. The individuals will provide specialist technical support and direction to all project stakeholders. They will design and implement innovative approaches to problem solving to accelerate delivery time on projects. They will follow rigorous project management methodologies to ensure successful delivery of the project. The individuals will also manage all Health, Safety and Environment related activities on the projects, ensuring the relevant standards are met.
Tertiary qualification, engineering or science related discipline preferred
Post graduate qualifications in Project Management preferred.
10 - 15 years' experience in the mining or construction industries with at least 6 to 8 of those leading medium size projects.
Significant experience in the mining or similar sectors with including leading large projects.
Project Management experience from an owner's or EPCM team in a Studies environment would be highly advantageous
