Purpose of the job
The applications area provides for the availability, maintenance, configuration and enhancements of the system, thereby ensuring service excellence to all end users. The analyst’s role is to assist in coordinating, planning, designing, developing, and launching efficient business, financial, and operational processes and sytem in support of core business functions.
To be successful in this role the analyst must; develop effective liaisons with the user community as they participate in the development of project strategies and plans and provides leadership and direction in the execution of project deliverables. work with project managers to apply project management methodologies, and gathering and analysing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. research each issue thoroughly, including identification of the costs, benefits and impacts of potential options. This include independent research and making recommendations on new functionality and products for their applicability to business imperatives. generate and compile reports based on findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions.
The business analyst's daily duties can vary greatly, depending on the nature of the current project. However, there are some activities that the business analyst will commonly do in the course of every project. They include: investigating goals and issues, analyzing information, communicating with a wide variety of people, documenting findings, and evaluating solutions. For a given project, the business analyst will usually try to define and oversee a series of carefully structured tasks aimed at achieving the general goals of analysis, synthesis, planning, and evaluation. Of course, these tasks require a flexible approach matching the circumstances. Key areas of responsibility
Investigating: The analyst will spend a good deal of time asking questions. In order to expand their knowledge, they might conduct interviews, read, and observe the operations of a functional business area they've been assigned to. They'll do research and look for solutions options, both within and outside the organization.
Analysing: The analyst spends a great deal of time analysing the information they acquire—studying it for patterns and trends; continually reviewing it to ensure that it is current, thorough, and accurate; and probing deeply for the sources of a problem and potential solutions. Many problems suggest multiple solutions, so the business analyst may have to spend lots of time analyzing and comparing solutions and weighing them against the actual needs.
Communicating: The analyst will spend many hours actively communicating. More than simply talking, this means listening to verbal and non-verbal messages, establishing open dialogue, confirming that they've understood what they've heard, and communicating what they learn to those who'll build the actual solution.
Documenting: There will be a fair amount of time documenting what they learn and observe, and the results of their analyses. The business analysts must reflect on the best ways to document specific types of information, whether as text or visual form (charts, graphs, illustrations, etc.).
Evaluating: This involves identifying options for solving specific problems, then helping to select the best one, and then evaluating the chosen solution through its design and construction to ensure that it continues to meet the business needs and that the team chooses the best process for putting it in place

Description of tasks
1. Create / maintain the Project Charter / Business Requirement Specification (BRS) for new/enhanced requirements.
2. Analyse and interpret BRS into potential system functionality and rules.
3. Research and analyse the new business requirement and recommend a solution.
4. Interpret the recommended solution into a Functional Requirements Specification (FRS)
5. Create test plans, test data and test packs for each project.
6. Obtain signoff for the solution from the Business Unit.
7. Perform Unit Testing and Systems Integration Testing within the Bank's provided or recommended test infrastructure & policies.
8. Make recommendations for training and development of systems/user manuals and e-learning modules.
9. Follow company and departmental policies and proceduresResearch problems and recommend corrective actions.
10. Interact with external vendors in knowledge transfer, support and maintenance of new applications being introduced into the environment.
11. Mentoring other resources as required. Skills and qualifications required
1. Business / Industry experience
a. Exposure to financial services / commercial services business
2. Education
a. Required - Matric
b. Advantageous - An appropriate tertiary qualification (NQF5 or above)
c. Industry training in business analysis eg. IIBA certifications.
3. Experience
a. Business/system analysis exposure in one of the following areas; data warehouse / reporting / data integration / data cleansing
b. Experience in requirements traceability and implementation.
4. Methodology
a. Case tools – experience in any case tools such as ARIS, etc.
b. Business Analysis Modelling techniques, data flow, swimlanes, use case, UML
5. Knowledge
a. Solid knowledge of the Microsoft office package specifically Word, Excel and VisioExposure to ITIL and/or Microsoft Solutions Framework and Microsoft Operations Framework
6. Compentencies
a. Elicit Requirements -gather and document user requirements to solve a business problem or achieve a business activity, and they are tied to the needs of business, rather than the constraints imposed by technology.
b. Create the Business Requirements Document – a written study of all facets of regulatory, business, user, functional or non-functional requirements. It is a detailed profile of primary and secondary users and comes directly from the requirements the business analyst has already gathered.
c. Modelling - the ability to conduct structured analysis. In business analysis, modelling is used to support and enhance text-based requirements. This includes business models, process models, data models and workflow models.
d. Object-Oriented Analysis - Object-oriented analysis is particularly important to business analysts as a business-planning tool to depict the hierarchy of business functions, processes and sub-processes within an organization.
e. Testing - test the deliverable to validate whether the requirements have been met. Develop test scripts, test plans and test scenarios based on the as-is state as well as the to-be models. Design test cases and review the results from these scenarios.
f. End-User Support - Complement the training team's efforts with their knowledge of the business requirements. Assist with development of training needs and end user support, including user manuals and reference materials. After deployment clarify any high-level questions that need to be addressed. Assess and evaluate all feedback from team members to ensure that the requirements necessary to correct any issues are addressed in future releases, iterations or versions of the product.
g. IT Fluency - The IT background for a competent business analyst depends entirely on the environment and the industry in which he or she works. Have a clear understanding of the IT products and tools necessary for the business to function as well as interconnectivity and relationships between the tools.

h. Business Process Re-Engineering - the "big-picture thinking" of business analysis, business analysts often to identify, using various modelling techniques, possible areas of improvement to walk the client or user through each step of the process, examining individual tasks that could potentially be improved and then to actually make suggestions for improvements.
