Job Title: INFECTION CONTROL CO-ORDINATOR
LOCATION: NETCARE PRETORIA EAST HOSPITAL
REPORTING TO: NURSING SERVICES MANAGER
CLOSING DATE: 22 JUNE 2012
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To aid and assist Hospital personnel in the prevention, identification and control of infections in patients and staff;
To plan, develop and implement an Infection Control programme using basic Infection Control standards;
To be responsible to Hospital Management for reporting, on a regular basis, all infections and Safety issues in the
Hospital;
To be responsible to Hospital management for reporting, on a regular basis, all infections and Safety issues in the

Will be responsible for regular reviews, and the subsequent documenting, of environmental hygiene and cleanliness
and waste;
Notifying the Department of Health timeously concerning notifyable diseases.
Co-ordination of regular Infection Control meetings;
Implementation of effective isolation protocols when necessary;
Involvement in on-going educative sessions with new employees and existing personnel;
Maintaining and regularly revising Policies, Procedures and Standards;
Co-ordinate investigation, submission and monitoring of all staff WCA / Injury on Duty Claims;
Co-ordinate plan, develop, implement and maintain an Occupational Health Clinic for Employees using the
appropriate guidelines within the acceptable framework and in accordance with relevant legislation;
Ensure OHS standard pertaining to Infection Control Policies and Procedures are implemented in conjunction with
Risk Management.
Education and in-service training of staff, night and day;
Evaluation of Infection Control standards and procedures;
Devise and implement quality assurance programmes;
Drive compliance and infection prevention with policies, procedures and standards;
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must hold appropriate Infection Control/Occupational Health & Safety qualification (or with relevant experience);
Experience as a Registered Nurse in a curative healthcare setting for minimum of 5 years;
Compliance with the SANC Scope of Practise for a Registered Nurse and all other applicable Health Care
Legislation and full registration with SANC;
Must be fully computer literate;
Surveillance programmes and evaluation of hospital practices;
Situational analysis and presentation of skills;
Education and in-service training of staff, night and day;
Evaluation of Infection Control standards and procedures;
Devise and implement quality assurance programmes;
Drive compliance and infection prevention with policies, procedures and standards;
