Introduction
The role of Management Accountant is primarily to prepare accurate monthly Management Accounts with commentary, Annual Financial Statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and completing quarterly and annual Statutory Returns To ensure that adequate internal controls and systems are maintained and that the financial information complies with the International Financial Reporting Standards.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the aim of the role is also to deliver pro-active financial, commercial and business advisory support in an efficient and effective manner to senior management.
The Incumbent will be responsible for:
Preparation of accurate and timeous monthly management reports
Preparation of statutory financial statements in terms of the International Financial Reporting Standards
Maintaining the sub and general ledger accounts on the financial systems
Reviewing and signing-off general ledger reconciliations
Variance analysis of key financial data against budget/prior year figures
Staff performance management and succession planning
Ensuring on-going responsibility for developing and maintaining an environment promoting teamwork
Identifying and addressing training needs of subordinates
Reviewing of the audit file and processes in compliance with the audit time table requirements
Effective and appropriate development and implementations of processes and reports in accordance with statutory requirements which complies with International Financial Reporting Standards
Providing financial data to the auditors
Drafting the annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS requirements
Assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of sound systems of internal control in line with corporate governance and risk management requirements
Assisting with the implementation of company policies, processes and procedures
Assisting in the development and controlling of a centralised accounting system to ensure that accounts are effectively managed in line with industry standards
Maintaining an up to date personal level of financial competence / knowledge
Reviewing the completion and submission of tax returns on SARS e-filing
Utilising financial acumen and business knowledge in reviewing the Investment administration for all corporate schemes and cash flow analysis
Preparation of annual budgets and cash flow forecasts
Facilitating and monitoring internal and external administrative queries
The applicant should meet these requirements:
BCom degree or similar degree (majoring in Accounting)
3 years’ experience in financial management
Experience in managed care environment
Knowledge about the health industry
Knowledge and understanding of full month-end / year-end procedures
Understanding the International Financial Reporting Standards
Extensive experience in performing/reviewing general ledger reconciliations, interpretation of system interface and resolving interface errors
A positive attitude, co-operative, willing to comply with policies and procedures and commit to core company values
Applicable legislative and regulatory framework
Demonstrates business acumen , including honesty, discretion and influencing skills
