Sanlam Employee Benefits provides a dynamic, in-house retirement fund administration product operating in a daily unit pricing environment and includes pensioner payroll functionality. The system and service structure can accommodate small, medium or large funds.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be part of the core, senior management team of each business unit and will be responsible with the Head of the business unit for the success of the unit
Management of Senior Fund Accountants and Fund Accountants that reports to the specific Senior Fund Accountant position
Training and coaching role for Senior Fund Accountants and Fund Accountants in the Fund Accounting department
Weekly review of triangle and bank reconciliations prepared by reconciliation officers
Monthly review of the general ledger reconciliations
Assisting with and resolution of queries relating to triangles, bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations not resolved by the team
Opening and closing of fiscal periods per fund allocated
Review of the Monthly/Quarterly trustee reports consisting of administration and financial information
Ensure timely distribution of Trustee reports as per the agreed service level agreement
Compilation and/or review of several reports (EXCO report and gain share reporting relating to service level agreements) PAYE - co-ordinating the timely bi-annual IRP5 reconciliations and submissions to SARS
Review of monthly Bank declaration and bank analysis
Review of the calculation and management of adhoc expense recoveries from member records relating to specific funds
Review and assist with the drafting of Annual Financial statements on the Caseware program and the preparation of audit files
Preparation of the audit plan and management of the prepared plan to ensure that all the departments involved in the audit of the fund complies to the audit plan
Interact with various departmental managers across the business to ensure timely delivery or required audit plan information
Assist with the queries raised by the actuaries, auditors, trustees and audit committee members of the funds
Preparation of audit committee meeting and trustee meeting information to be included in the packs distributed and presenting this information at the relevant meetings
Attendance of audit committee meetings, trustee meetings and presentations
Be involved in business projects from time to time

Minimum Requirements

B Com with Accounting III as major in final year
Completed articles with an accounting firm will be an advantage
B Com Honours and CTA would be an advantage

Competencies

Technical Competencies:
Good knowledge in the preparation of financial statements
Caseware experience will be to your advantage
Proficiency in MS Office
3 to 5 years experience in a similar role, including managing a team
Previous retirement fund experience will be advantageous
Advanced excel will be advantageous
