Objectives:
• Implement network changes as detailed by Operations planning,
• Perform routine checks diagnostics on BSC, BTS, Rectifiers, All Cell Extender types, Transcoders, MFS,
and Node B’s,
• Log faults and take remedial action necessary according to type of fault,
• Assist or perform downloading of software changes for BSC Transcoders,
• Ensure that regional targets are met,
• Capacity upgrades / downgrades,
• Commissioning and co-ordination of new BSS equipment in the Network including all Cell Extender types,
• Maintaining a store location and van stores, with accuracy, using Omnix,
• Co-ordinating job orders with contractors,
• Signing off of Site acceptance, verifying its contents and work performed after completion,
• Obtaining and controlling the required hardware for Network activities,
• Liase with subscribers regarding Customer Care issues,
• To assist in the roll-out of new network infrastructure (BTSs, BSCs, Transcoders and all extender types) in order to enhance the capacity and the coverage of the network and thereby achieve availability, Grade of Service (GOS) and new coverage targets,
• To assist in the roll out of both temporary and permanent transmission to achieve network availability and Grade of Service (GOS) targets,
• To assist in the upgrading of the GSM network through the implementation of new technologies (GPRS), EDGE and 3G in order to achieve GOS targets and new services delivery,
• To ensure that all reported faults are repaired as per agreed upon time lines and in accordance with company policies and procedures, e.g. BSC, transcoders, BTS, etc,
• To maintain the GSM network as a totality by conducting routine and preventative maintenance to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance to set company standards, policies, procedures and targets,
• To ensure compliance to all company policies and procedures (health and safety, functional policies and procedures) on all functions performed,
• To compile monthly reports, e.g. maintenance activities in the GSM network, overtime, standby and log sheets for the month as well as to update the maintenance database and site files (checklists & photos),
• To conduct cut-overs, commissioning as well as de-commissioning of sites as a planned project and ensure optimum network quality and performance at all times,
• To ensure that all relevant databases and computer systems are updated and maintained to ensure 100% data integrity on the Network, e.g. OMNIX, HP Service Desk, OMC, etc.,
• Coordinate site problems with Telkom, Eskom, relevant municipalities, etc.
• Assist and represent all other departments on an ad hoc base. These are typical Property, Marketing, Community Services, Planning, Transmission and Installations.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS

• 3 year Technical degree / National diploma (S4, T3,N6)

EXPERIENCE

• Experience of RF and 2Mbit transmission is a requirement.
• At least 1-2 years experience inclusive of: 2 Mbit Transmission (Essential), Radio Frequency (RF) (Essential), AC/DC (Power) (Essential), Radio Maintenance (Essential), Microwave experience (Desirable), GSM general (Desirable), Standby plants (Desirable)
• Additional experience will be an added advantage.

Other:
• Code EB Drivers Licence and five (5) years driving experience (day and night) which include towing of generators with a netto weight of 1.5 tons and 4x4 driving ability (Essential)
• Knowledge of generators, 380 V AC basics and standby battery’s (Essential),
• Long and irregular working hours to be expected
• Be willing to work overtime
• Be willing to climb masts with relevant training
• Be willing to travel long distances
• Do standby as per standby roster
• Use Vodacom acceptable facilities at his/her residence for office work and provide storage for a vehicle and two generators and spare BSS modules. Allowance paid. (desirable),
