Associate Lecturer (three year development position)



Modern Languages at the University of the Witwatersrand is seeking to fill a position at Lecturer/Associate Lecturer level. We teach Italian language, literature and culture. The successful applicant will be required to lecture and tutor a wide-ranging curriculum across all years of study. We also expect lecturers to be active researchers who publish regularly and participate in the intellectual life of the School and University.



The candidate must have the capacity to teach Italian as a second or foreign language. Knowledge of an additional language or languages would be an advantage. Applicants must also have an interest in teaching literature and/or cultural studies and be keen to promote interdisciplinary activity and research within the School.



Remuneration is determined according to experience and the university scale. Duties would commence from 1 January 2013.



Requirements:

Associate Lecturer: MA in pedagogy or Italian literary studies or translation and progress towards a PhD; Evidence of research potential, experience in research an advantage; Evidence of teaching potential, especially at the postgraduate level.

Lecturer: PhD in Italian studies; evidence of research ability and potential; track record of competent teaching preferred.
