Objective:

The Mining Governance Alumni Coordinator will develop a program and carry out follow up activities with participants of AAPF mining governance study tours and other AusAID-financed mining related activities.
The AAPF has managed nine mining study tours in Australia and Africa since August 2011, with over 230 participants from across 25 African countries. Several more study tours are planned for the 2012/13. The alumni of these study tours and other AusAID-funded mining training and other activities are key contributors to AAPF relationship and development outcome goals.

Selection Criteria:
• Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Administration, Education, Development Studies, or other disciplines related to the AAPF;
• Extensive experience in the management, coordination and delivery of alumni or other education-related programs or projects, preferably in an international and multi-cultural setting;
• Experience in the management, administration and delivery of donor agency funded development projects. Familiarity with Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) funded projects preferred;
• Experience organising and facilitating alumni events, exchange programs, or other education related activities that involve cultural diversity, development priorities and political imperatives in a range of settings and sectors, and preferably for mining activities;
• Experience working with African and Australian officials at both senior and mid-levels;
• Excellent written and spoken English, and strong report writing skills;
• Proficiency in a second language, especially French or Portuguese, a plus;
• Experience and networks in the African or Australian mining sectors a plus;
• Proven high level communication, presentation and teamwork skills; and
• A high level of computing skills, including the ability to use applications in word processing (MS Word), financial spreadsheet (MS Excel) and project management (MS Project).

Responsibilities:
• In consultation with the AAPF Key Project Development Specialist (Mining), develop and implement an alumni program for participants of AAPF mining study tours and other mining related activities. This alumni program should a) support the AAPF’s twin goals of relationship building and contribution to development outcomes, and b) encourage the active participation and networking of alumni;
• Identify the needs and interests of participants, and based on that and the objectives of AAPF, design follow-on training, professional development workshops, and other relevant activities;
• Coordinate alumni attendance at functions organized in Africa;
• Identify opportunities for further relationship building between African participants and Australian counterparts, including translating relationships into longer term institutional partnerships;
• Ensure coordination with and participation of AusAID’s other mining related activities, such as those of the Australia Awards for Africa (AAA) Program and the International Mining for Development Centre (IM4DC);
• Manage the administration of the Africa Mining Participant Database (AMPD), an AusAID-funded database of all participants of mining-related activities under AAPF, AAA and IM4DC;
• Ensure that alumni activities are in line with AusAID’s Mining for Development in Africa strategy, and integrated into AusAID’s anticipated global Mining for Development alumni network;
• Establish and maintain contact with necessary networks, organisations and personnel to enable the effective management of the alumni network;
• Perform research and site visits to identify adequate locations and events for alumni, and manage the logistics of alumni events;
• Provide updates and reports to AAPF’s Communications Specialist and other relevant team members for publication, website posting, and quarterly reporting as requested; and
• Encourage and facilitate the harmonious interaction of mining alumni.

General:
This position is a casual consultancy position, with no minimum guaranteed amount of work.

This position reports to and will be tasked by the AAPF Key Project Development Specialist (Mining), and will undergo annual performance assessments that are mandatory for all AusAID adviser engagements.

The appointed consultant will be paid fees consistent with the AusAID Adviser Remuneration Framework. This position has been classified as a short-term position under Discipline Category C and Job Level 3.
