Job Title: MIS / ODS Manager

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To manage, lead and direct efforts towards providing operational and business data and insight to the business areas. To ensure the availability, scalability and integrity of the banks’ transactional and client information (stored in the Operational Data Store (“ODS”)) for enabling business decision-making and management control. Plan, direct, co-ordinate and manage the design, implementation, development and support of the Mercantile Bank ODS system. Management of a small team of specialists that provide supporting functions of the ODS.
KEY DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS
1. Business Information Delivery (MIS, BI and Analytics)
Work with Analysts and Super-Users in each Business Area to ensure appropriate Data, Information & Knowledge Management.
Provide operational and business information and insight (Control Report, MIS and BI) to the business users.
Ensure Accurate, efficient access and delivery of data and information to decision makers.
2. Information Architecture (IA)
Define the MBL Information Strategy and Enterprise Data Model (EDM) as part of an Information Architecture function.
Define and implement an Enterprise-wide Metadata Model & Management process.
3. IA Governance
Ensure adherence to IA policies, procedures and standards and alignment with broader IT Strategy and Systems Architecture. Ensures a consistent application of the Metadata standards and maintenance of the Metadata Repository.
4. ODS Support and Management
Management of the ODS application environment (availability, capacity, scalability, integrity).
Ensure timeous and quality delivery of support and maintenance activities related to the ODS environment, through appropriate short / long term appointments of resources.
5. ODS Development
Participation as a resource in the team, providing support to users and maintenance tasks related to the ODS environment.
Development of SQL code / scripts to meet business requirements.
6. Change Management
Participates in the Change process where impacted on/by the ODS. Ensures alignment and communication of changes to dependent data users.
7. Solution Design
Recommend pragmatic and cost-effective solutions based on sound and comprehensive evaluations, taking into account speed-to-delivery and business context.
8. Capacity Management
Plan for and ensure appropriate data-storage capacity for the ODS, Analytical needs (TA&F) and Archival.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Formal education (or NQF equivalent) and experience:
3 year Computer Science degree or IT Diploma (Degree preferred).
Qualifications or experience in appropriate technologies (e.g. Oracle, ETL and BI Tools).
5 to 8 years’ experience in BI (Business Information) / DW (Data Warehousing) environments preferably for a large commercial entity.
Experience in managing a team.
Experience in the financial services sector would be advantageous.
