Job Title: Product and Channel Development Analyst

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To act as a project analyst for a number of initiatives in the Product and Channel space aimed at increasing Mercantile’s suite of products and channels and in so doing its overall customer value proposition. Assume responsibility for the development of financial models and business cases for the various new products and channels. Thereafter to assist in the implementation of the projects and the overall management and maintenance of the implemented products and channels to ensure that revenue targets are met and that the overall business profitability grows.
KEY DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS
Project management:
• The role offers the potential candidate the unique opportunity of helping to shape both the Product and Channel set of the organisation
• To act as the business owner / analyst during the design and development phase of new product and channel offerings and the implementation thereof and to assist in ensuring that the projects remains on track and on budget
• Assist in the design, development and implementation of the various new products and channels that will be required by Mercantile Bank for it to offer a compelling value proposition to its customers
Business Growth:
• Assist in the implementation of the Product and Channel objectives agreed to by the Board in the annual strategy review session
• To assist in the refinement of Product-and-Channel-level MIS and reporting to ensure that the business has better insights on which to base it’s decision making
• Develop a close working relationship with the various product owners within MBL and the areas responsible for generation of MIS
• Where MIS is lacking assist in the extraction of insights from available raw data
Product and Channel Knowledge:
• Have a good knowledge of the products and services provided by competitors
• Have a good understanding of physical and self-service channels and new developments in this space
• Have a good understanding of the types of products and channels typically needed by customers, with a particular emphasis on the customers in the business market
• Play a key role in the development and ongoing refinement of a compelling value propositions for Mercantile Bank customer segments to ensure good acceptance of it’s offerings in the market place
• Act as product and channel owner for certain product and channels
Budgets and targets:
• Assist in providing Product and Channel insights to business and the executive to be used in the annual budgeting process
• Assist in enhancing the overall MIS and reporting process to track the various sales and usage targets for the Products and Channels
• Assist in the annual pricing review process conducted by the bank
Internal marketing:
• Build and maintain good relationships with key stakeholders in the Risk, Finance, IT, Alliance Banking, Credit, Retail and Commercial departments and take responsibility for liaising with all relevant people in these departments regarding the project at hand
• Where relevant, build and maintain good relationships with Joint-Venture partners and service providers
Reporting:
• Work with the MIS area and IT team to develop and refine the reports used in the analysis of Product and Channel performance
• Responsible for devising and implementing reports for management that will provide a dashboard view of all relevant data

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum formal education or NQF equivalent:
• Relevant Business Degree
• Postgraduate qualifications preferable
Experience:
• 3-5 years experience in financial services or management consulting, preferably in the areas of product and or self-service channel development.
