Introduction

The purpose of this role is to develop and manage a best practice framework for the Legal function that fulfils a statutory and legal services optimisation function to the business and needs to advise on strategy formulation and business direction based on legal implications

Minimum qualification

LLB
Admission to the Side Bar will be an added advantage
10-12 years Legal Services experience of which at least 5 years must have been at a senior management level
Strong knowledge of Company Act & Governance, Board management & skills, JSE Listing requirements
Ability to build strong networks and strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Job Specification


Develop, plan, implement and take accountability for the strategy and operating model of Legal in response to the business strategy.
Establish strategies and tactics that optimise the organisations legal obligations.
Ensure alignment of divisional legal strategies and tactics with those of the organisation.
Establishing and managing a capability for the drafting and reviewing of all legal documents: contracts, policy documents, SLA's, fund rules etc.
Researching and remaining up to date with all legislative developments and advising business on aligning these changes to business imperatives.
Develop the best legal counsel in order to provide general commercial legal services
Facilitate delivery of legal advice, guidance and support services that enable business to achieve their business imperatives.
Facilitate delivery of litigation support to the business.
Continuously strive to enhance and improve the Legal processes at group, divisional and business unit level.
Drive the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting on a process to gather organisational feedback regarding the application of Legal practices, processes and performance.
Ensure that all the Legal team members consistently discharge their duties in terms of the business strategy process, both in terms of analysis and continuous effective communication.
Develop, implement and manage a People Capability plan that ensures that the department has the human resources and skills required to deliver on the strategy for the short-, medium- and long-term.
Setting up due diligence investigation and setting up new business
