EFFECTIVE PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
An optimised team is manned by staff which are motivated, empowered and led by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices. Promote teamwork, provide support and manage performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans for subordinates. Oversee recruitment and HR related activities of reporting staff. Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the Manager (direct superior).
SAFE AND HEALTHY WORK ENVIRONMENT
Develop, maintain and improve safe operational- and engineering standards and continuously review specifications and schedules.
Ensure equipment integrity is maintained according to safety standards. Maintain NOSA and related systems, aligned with Exxaro safety standards, Occupational Health, Safety and Environment registers, ISO 14000; 9000 and 18001 systems.Manage and control quality of raw materials and products. Conduct timeous investigation of incidents and ensure adequate remedial action is implemented.Execute and drive safety programs by coaching and observing people on the job. Ensure effective risk management by identifying hazardous activities and mitigation measures on a continuous basis.
CONTINIOUS IMPROVEMENT
Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments within the specialist field.Liaise with other departments toward evaluating new technologies to improve process capabilities, product quality and throughput requirements.Conduct research work in order to initiate process changes.
PROCESS EFFICIENCY
Assume responsibility for meeting production targets by adhering to production- and maintenance schedules.Attend to breakdowns whilst maintaining set production targets.Ensure the optimal use of available resources, both people and equipment.Assume responsibility for the quality of work conducted within the functional area.Conduct trouble-shooting in order to identify root cause for substandard operating conditions.Complete, process and update all records and related documentation
CUSTOMER AND CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Liaise with internal and external customers, relevant statutory bodies to ensure sound business relationship management toward meeting client needs.Ensure Exxaro's image is maintained and promoted at all times (internally and externally).Provide a professional / specialist advisory support service with regard to production / product quality across different levels within the organisation.
BUDGET AND COST CONTROL
Prepare and control the section's annual budget by forecasting operational costs and monitor expenditure on a monthly basis.Focus on advancements in production, equipment and related processes in order to assess production unit cost reduction potential.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
Manage projects with regard to processes, technology and equipment.

Appointments are dependent on the completion of a successful medical examination and receipt of a valid medical certificate. Exxaro facilicates such medical examinations where required.
