System Engineer

Job Purpose:
• To provide an effective technical service either through own efforts or through supervision of Server Support Engineers in supporting and maintaining Nedbank servers thereby ensuring maximum system availability as per SLA requirement.

Key Functions / Responsibilities
Resolve all calls:
• Responds timeously as per SLA agreement requirements to escalated logged calls or complex server problems.
• Investigates, restores and resolve problems if relevant to server issues alternatively de-assigns the call and escalates it to relevant people.
• Attends severity / focus meetings to assist in resolution of problems.
• Conducts investigation to determine if IMAC (Install, move, add, change configurations) and decommission is required.
• Liaises with relevant vendor if deemed necessary to resolve server problem.
• Pro-actively identifies and analyses particular problem areas and decides on resolution and action.

Maintain Servers:
• Exploits all current system tools to ensure best system performance.
• Ensures that is up-to-date with emerging trends relating to server technology.
• Monitors servers to ensure optimal functioning and minimum downtime / impact to the business.
• Conducts server backups and ensures space capacity on servers as per requirements and procedures.
• Ensures configuration database is up-to-date (Desert Storm).
• Conducts software maintenance (service packs and patches agents) of servers to ensure compliance with standards.
• Upgrades operating systems to ensure optimal levels of performance.
• Ensure the availability of all servers according to business requirements by ensuring daily backups, designing Disaster recovery Plans and testing.

Respond to TRS and Service Centre:
• Responds effectively to TRS requests according to SLA requirements and change procedures. Closes TRS request when executed, captures billable time and gets sign off by manager & requester.
• Consults on server related operational aspects of a project adhering to project tasks and timelines.
• Technical project manages internal technical projects.

Complete Documentation:
• Effectively reviews technical designs that relate to server environment and installation documentations so as to ensure technical viability.
• Creates and validates the quality and relevance of standard installation and configuration documents.
• Accurately captures time.
• Completes all documentation relevant to work outputs as required.

Support Server Engineers:
• Supports Server Engineers to ensure upliftment of skills and delivery of quality outputs.
• Advises and overseas deliverables.

Requirements:
• Maric, MSCE W2K or later.
• Relevant computer degree, diploma.
• MSCE, A+.
• 5-7 years experience in server support role.
• Heterogenous IT environment.
• Server infrastructure, Microsoft operating systems (Proficient), Microsoft backoffice products
is required to be on Standby, work shifts and overtime.
• Own transport and valid drivers license is a requirement.
