  Job Title: Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer: Materials Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering

This is achieved both through world class research in niche areas (e.g. advanced fuels research, computational mechanics, energy studies, impact and materials engineering, among others), and by excellent teaching based on sound pedagogical principles, focussed particularly around design and the design philosophy. The Department enjoys local and international accreditation, and continues to produce some of the country’s most competent mechanical engineers.

The Department is seeking to appoint a dynamic and suitably qualified person to undertake teaching and research in the field of materials science and engineering. Candidates with a broad background in materials engineering, as well as specific expertise in physical metallurgy and deformation processing of light metals are invited to apply for this position.

Requirements:

• A PhD in materials engineering.
• Knowledge of the behaviour of materials under stress and materials selection in design.
• Teaching experience.

Demonstrated qualities that would inform the level of appointment:

• A research track record that demonstrates productivity as well as creativity.
• Supervision of undergraduate projects and postgraduate dissertations.
• Contribution to curriculum development.
• Links with industry as well as the solicitation of research funding.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Contribute significantly to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to research.
• Supervise student research, obtain funding for research programmes, publish in appropriate journals and participate in administration.
• Commit to apply a National Research Foundation rating and professional registration.

• Senior Lecturer: R 526 873
• Lecturer: R 427 311
