Minimum Requirements

Qualification:
N2 Electrical or equivalent
Valid authorisation to operate on systems up to and including 33 W.
Valid Live work gloving and PML
Authorisation
Trade Diploma
Without Trade Diploma - T08

Key Responsibilities

Maintain by:
Perform planned maintenance on networks, up to and including 33 kv in accordance with policies, directives, standards procedures, work practice, guidelines and service agreements by
Inspecting, evaluating, and executing non intrusive maintenance on substations, control rooms, battery banks, chargers, lines and feeders by:
Conducting periodic inspections
Identifying defects
Replacing identified defects
Ensuring low impedance earth paths and earth resistivity by electrical testing, observations and applying remedial actions.
Inspecting, replenishing and replacing the following on/in transformers, NECs, breakers, isolators:
Silica gel
Insulating, cooling and arc control medium
Lubrication
Electrolytes
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Both fixed and moving breaker contacts
Mechanism heaters
Analysing and capturing current operating values on transformers, lines AC/DC systems and feeders. (E.g. Current, voltage, loading, charging rates and temperatures)
Ensuring conformance to plant and equipment component alignment, contact pressure, insulation levels, anti decay/oxidation and electrical clearance requirements.
Planning and executing operating and barricading on MV/LV networks to ensure safe working sites (Switching, linking, safety testing and earthing)
Operating the distribution facilities operating at 33kV and below to assure a reliable and economic supply of electricity. The operation is done in accordance to the requirements of the ORHVS
Performing live line work in repairing damaged overhead line accessories such as insulators, cross-arms, poles as well as connection new customers
Conducts maintenance on small power users supply points and metering by
Executing meter change outs, meter functional tests and revenue protection checks.
Installing single phase and polyphase watthour and recording demand metering equipment including associated current and voltage transformers
Ensuring correct supply parameters (Voltage, Current).
Ensuring the installation of plant conforms to design specifications.
Conduct maintenance on Reticulation lines up to and including 33kv by
Leading and performing live work maintenance from PML or ladder by replacing faulty strain, suspension, pin and post insulators as per Live Work Authorisation
Leading and performing dead work maintenance in all aspects of line
Repair by:
Responds to call outs from the dispatcher during abnormal conditions and power supply interruptions on a 24 hour basis to minimise customer outage by
Being on standby
Analyses network fault indicators by
Interpreting, logging, resetting and reporting relay flags and indicators, breaker and fuse status and counter movements.
Providing milestone feedback to dispatcher.
Decides on and negotiates with control the sectionalizing and HV/MV/LV fault finding techniques to be employed to find the fault and restore the supply.
Executing operating under instruction of control.
Accepting/ executing permission to operate/ permission to sectionalize from control.
Rapidly restores supply to customers by:
Planning, negotiating and executing system reconfiguration to restore supply.
Executing restoration within competency and resource constraints to only a minimum (safe) specification to restore supply.
Activating additional resource requirements to execute immediate restoration via the dispatcher.
Build by:
Creates assets on networks up to and including 33 KV in accordance with policies, directives, procedures, standards, work practice, guidelines and service agreements by
Commissions new plant by
Evaluating plant for conformance to installation and design specification (phasing, phase rotation, settings, voltage and loading).
Planning and negotiating system commissioning procedure.
Executing plant hand over procedure.
Connecting up utilizing live work methods (live tapping)
Updates information systems by
Completing plant, commercial operation sheets and asset register.
Updating data files and revising diagrams.
Accepts accountability for and plans Minor projects by
Accepting and coordinating allocated resources.
Pegging routes for short reticulation and urban lines.
Building lines and supply points.
Interpreting and applying blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and using formulas basic to the trade to figure such things as voltage and resistance.
Health and safety by:
Ensures a safe working environment and eliminates unsafe acts complying to statutory and Eskom Requirements by
Effecting appointment as safety representative.
Complying with Eskom and Statutory requirements.
Issuing permits and barricading areas for contractors to work on electrical equipment
Ensuring that live work tools and equipment are cleaned, inspected and tested
Authorising by Eskom to switch Distribution equipment in substations and lines in accordance with the ORHVS.
Training by:
Provides on job training to technical officials and staff in training by
Demonstrating safe work practices, use and care of tools and equipment.
Informing staff of changes on requirements, policies, directives, procedures, standards, work practices, guidelines and service agreements
Customer service by:
Provides a one stop technical service to customers by
Investigating customer complaints, claims and quality of supply queries.
Providing milestone feedback to key receivers on abnormal conditions and restoration of supply.
Providing information to large power users on the safe and efficient use of electricity.
