Minimum Requirements



A National Diploma in Horticulture (Ornamental Horticulture) or equivalent qualification
At least 2 years’ applicable practical experience



Recommendations:

BTech Horticulture (Ornamental Horticulture) or equivalent qualification
Fluency in Xhosa and/or Afrikaans


Key Perfomance Areas



Management and maintenance of general nursery operations, administration, safety and security
Supervision of general workers and in-service training students
Attend to after-hour nursery related emergencies
Maintenance of special plant collections and plants from tissue culture laboratory
Control of retail outlet income through plant sale, expenses and stock control
Management of indoor plant maintenance on various campuses
Assistance to lecturers in preparation of venues for lectures and practicals
Assistance to lecturer in demonstrations and practical examinations
Coordination of open days, plant decorations, exhibitions and community projects
Provide technical assistance with research projects


Competencies



Have detailed knowledge of the Ornamental Horticulture Industry
Have practical experience in nursery and retail management
Have excellent organizational and administrative skills
Be a good communicator and have people skills
Team work
Computer skills (Ms Office Suite & GroupWise)
Be able to work on all university campuses
Valid driver’s license
